A training course, which entitled “Industrial Wastewater
Treatment: Toxicity, types and treatment methods”,
was held by The Nanotechnology Center at the University of Jordan during 28-31
March 2022. It aimed to introduce the types of industrial wastewater in Jordan
and their negative effects on the environment and human health, in addition to the treatment methods that are
used to treat this kind of water. Furthermore, the course highlighted the most
important methods used to check the quality of the wastewater before and after
treatment.
The training was held within the activities
of the European project “Intelligent Water Treatment
for water preservation combined with simultaneous energy production and
material recovery in energy intensive industries- intelWATT” which
is funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation
programme.
On the first two days of the course, valuable
lectures on industrial wastewater in Jordan were presented by Prof. Dr. Sharif
Arar (Chemistry dept., University of Jordan), Dr Maha Halalshe (Water, Energy
and Environment Center, University of Jordan) and Prof. Dr Mona Abu Dalu (Jordan University of Science and
Technology). The third and fourth days included a scientific visit to the Wastewater
Treatment Plant at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Al Hikma
Factory Wastewater Unit.
Postgraduates, undergraduates and
fresh graduates from different universities in Jordan from different
backgrounds has participated in this training course.
