Center for Women’s Studies Holds Lecture on Women’s Empowerment and Addressing Political Violence

As part of the "She Leads" program, the Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Jordan, in cooperation with the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs, held a lecture titled "Women’s Participation in Political Life and Electoral Violence Against Women." The lecture was delivered by Dr. Jumana Dahamsheh from the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs.

At the opening of the event, Professor Amal Al-Awawdah, Director of the Center for Women’s Studies, welcomed the distinguished attendees. The lecture saw notable participation from the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs, the “ARDD – Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development” organization, and the "She Leads" program, in addition to several faculty and administrative members of the Center for Women’s Studies, as well as a group of university students.

Dr. Al-Awawdah emphasized the importance of enhancing women's participation in political life based on a rights-based framework that ensures genuine representation in decision-making. She pointed out that women possess tremendous potential that can contribute effectively to societal development. She added that women's political participation is not merely a right, but a strategic necessity to support social and political balance, noting that women’s presence in decision-making positions reflects the political advancement of society.

For her part, Dr. Jumana Dahamsheh addressed several key themes in her lecture. She discussed the historical evolution of women's political engagement leading up to their attainment of prominent political positions. She also highlighted the pivotal role of Hashemite leadership in empowering women to reach political office. Additionally, she touched on the various forms of political violence faced by women in this context and the critical role of the feminist movement in promoting women’s participation in political life.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Al-Awawdah extended her sincere thanks to the audience for their engagement and valuable contributions to the event, which addressed important issues concerning the national and parliamentary status of women. She also stressed the need to continue fostering dialogue and discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing women in the political arena, expressing her gratitude to the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs, the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, and ARDD for their fruitful collaboration.
