Women in the Digital World, Technology, and Leadership – A Lecture at the University of Jordan

Mustafa Al-Moumani – The Center for Women's Studies at the University of Jordan organized today a lecture titled “Women in the Digital World, Technology, and Leadership" for students enrolled in the Special Topics course. The lecture was delivered by Layla Alia, Senior Director of Technical Support Engineering at Microsoft, and Raghda Abd Al-Din, also Senior Director of Technical Support Engineering at Microsoft, in the presence of the Center's Director, Dr. Amal Al-Awawdeh, and the course coordinator, Dr. Hadeel Bshamaf.

Dr. Al-Awawdeh opened the event with a welcoming speech, during which she provided an overview of the importance of the topic amid the rapid transformations in technology and the digital economy. She highlighted the pivotal role women play in this vital sector and stressed the importance of equipping female students with the digital and leadership skills needed to keep pace with these changes.

During the lecture, Raghda Abd Al-Din addressed several themes related to the role of women in the era of technology and digital communication. She shed light on the presence of Jordanian women in the technology sector and their ability to contribute to development and innovation processes. She also discussed the concept of female leadership in the tech environment and the key skills women need to strengthen their leadership presence in the labor market, emphasizing that the digital field offers vast opportunities for women to assume influential roles and drive change.

For her part, Layla Alia focused on the opportunities available to women in the technology sector and the emerging fields they can enter amid the evolution of digital solutions and artificial intelligence. She also discussed the major challenges women continue to face in this sector, including the digital gap, underrepresentation in certain specializations, and traditional work structures that may limit women's participation. She stressed the importance of initiatives that support women's technical and professional empowerment.

The lecture also included additional themes related to women and technology, women and artificial intelligence, and the importance of technological empowerment, in addition to addressing issues related to digital and technological violence and methods of prevention and awareness to promote a safe digital environment.

This event comes as part of the Center's participation in Global Entrepreneurship Week, aiming to enhance students' awareness of digital empowerment and entrepreneurship issues, highlight women's success stories in the technology sector, and provide an interactive platform that inspires female students and supports their professional aspirations.
