Environmental Sustainability

The Uiversity of Jordan plays a significant and pivotal role in advancing environmental sustainability through research, training, services and education. The Center's researchers are full-time researchers and their research and projects focus directly on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the future plan of the WEEC is to conduct more research and collaborative projects he Water, Energy, and Environment Center (WEEC) at the Unin order to achieve sustainability goals.

The research center is committed to continuous collaboration in regional and international scientific projects and services  funded by various entities such as European, USAID, UNDP, GIZ, JAICA and CIDA projects, to achieve the goals of environmental and water resources sustainability by integrating technological, and institutional and social aspects into a cohesive framework. The center focuses on training, such as staff training in cooperation with relevant actors in the field of Environmental Sustainability to achieve a safe, clean and healthy environment for dealing the center's various laboratories and their chemical materials, which has a significant impact on the entire environment.

The Center also transfers the researchers' expertise to students by supervising scientific dissertations and conducting their research in the Centers' Laboratories and facilities. Not to mention the cooperation between the WEEC and other entities, departments and schools s under the umbrella of the University of Jordan, such as the Agricultural Stations Department located in the Central Jordan Valley, and the Research Institute between the University of Jordan, which is the Marine Science Station, in addition to external cooperation such as the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The center contributes to developing curricula and teaching courses for undergraduate and graduate students in various faculties such as Engineering, Agriculture, Marine Sciences, and others.

The collaboration, training programs and transfer of education and information to graduate/undergraduate students achieve a wide range of sustainability goals in terms of (7) Renewable Energy (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities (12) Responsible Consumption (13) Climate Action and (14) Live Below Water, and (15) Life on Land. Table 1 shows examples of research on the sustainable development goals. Table 2 shows examples of funded projects on the sustainable development goals.
