Fadia Al-Ataibi – Participants in a consultative meeting held by the Women's Studies Center at the University of Jordan today agreed on drawing a roadmap for joint work between various centers and units concerned with women's issues across public and private universities. The goal is to establish a joint task force for exchanging information and data.
The meeting, which was held at the kind invitation of Dr. Amal Al-Awawdeh, Director of the Center, and gathered the directors of Women's Studies Centers and Women Empowerment Units from Jordanian public and private universities, emphasized the need for creating a specific framework of action under which all relevant centers and units could unite their efforts. This would ensure that the work being done in this area is systematic, based on solid and sound foundations.
The attendees discussed the most prominent scenarios for possible collaboration among the different centers and units, coordinating efforts to organize awareness workshops on women's rights, preparing joint research projects, and forming specialized research teams on women's issues to support the university environment with innovative entrepreneurial ideas to promote gender equality among university students.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Awawdeh welcomed the attendees from the directors of Women's Studies Centers and Women Empowerment Units from the Hashemite University, Al-Bayt University, Al-Israa University, Tafila Technical University, Middle East University, and Amman Arab University. She expressed her happiness that they had accepted the invitation, which opens the door for mutual cooperation between all parties and the exchange of experiences and opportunities in the field of women's studies.
Dr. Al-Awawdeh stated that this meeting—held for the first time and initiated by the Women's Studies Center—was aimed at fostering social and academic connections between representatives of centers and women's units at various Jordanian public and private universities. This is due to the pivotal role of universities as a driving force for change, decision-making, strategy-building, and community guidance. Therefore, this meeting is intended to be a brainstorming session that leads to knowledge production and the creation of innovative and creative ideas.
Dr. Al-Awawdeh emphasized that this meeting represents the starting point for sustainable cooperation between centers concerned with women's issues at the public and private universities in Jordan, with the aim of achieving academic and research objectives that serve women's issues. She pointed out the many purposeful proposals that could be implemented in a systematic, step-by-step manner based on unified goals that ultimately serve the community and women, who constitute half of it.
The meeting saw active engagement from the attendees due to the discussions and ideas presented, which reflected the importance of the active role of women, which is inseparable from society as a whole in all political, economic, and social fields. It also contributes to raising awareness of women's issues and striving to change society's mindset about their specific life choices, protection, and empowerment.
