The English Department at the Language Center, University of
Jordan, is dedicated to teaching English through a newly developed program
designed in line with international best practices and aligned with the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This program offers
levels ranging from A1.1 to C1.2, in addition to an advanced course entitled Special
Topic in English for students placed at C1 or above. It aims to enhance
students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in an integrated
and progressive manner. It emphasizes communicative competence, critical
thinking, and 21st-century skills, equipping students with the linguistic and
cognitive abilities required for both academic success and future career
opportunities.
At the same time, the department
continues its academic responsibility of delivering English basics and
English skills courses,
which focus on essential language skills for students from previous cohorts.
This ensures academic continuity and addresses the diverse needs of learners
across different levels.
The department is also responsible for
teaching the Qualifying English Course for graduate students across various
disciplines. This course aims to develop the academic English skills required
to meet university standards, and students must pass it before starting their
master’s studies.
The department is staffed with a
distinguished team of faculty members holding PhDs and Master’s degrees.
Through innovative teaching strategies and the use of modern learning
resources, the department seeks to advance students’ linguistic competencies
and creative abilities, in alignment with the University of Jordan’s mission of
academic excellence and leadership.
